About

Homeschooling is about so much more than just teaching curriculum. It’s about your family and your life. How you structure your home and how you parent. Yes, you are teaching your kids math, science, and history but you are also teaching them about how to live life. How to be responsible adults and how to manage everything from the exciting to the mundane…especially the mundane! It’s a huge responsibility and one that I don’t take lightly. Which is why I decided to start Savvy Schooling. I am constantly on the lookout for the best and most effective ways to parent and to homeschool and I work hard to be the best I can possibly be in those areas. It hasn’t always been a smooth and easy journey but it is so rewarding. And I want to share all that with you!

Join me as we take this crazy journey together. On Savvy Schooling, you’ll find lots of information on homeschooling like resources, activities, curriculum ideas and recommendations, tips, tricks, and tools of the trade. You’ll also find plenty of information on parenting — the most important undertaking in life that doesn’t come with a manual! Plus lots and lots of encouragement!

Before we get started, let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Kristi. I have a wonderful and supportive husband and I am the mother of two amazing boys, Ace (early elementary age) and Dash (infant). I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl. In fact, I used to teach all my stuffed animals and dolls on a regular basis. I even had grading books and old curricula that family friends gave to me to use in my play! It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise then that I have a degree in education. What probably will surprise you is that I ended up finding a new talent for and passion in marketing and event planning and spent most of my working years in that field. Before quitting to become a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler when Ace was 18 months old, I worked in a number of industries including health care, publishing, and technology.

Homeschooling was a no-brainer for me. I like teaching in small-group settings the best and being able to customize my lessons to my child’s learning style is ideal. My homeschool motto is “I’m not preparing my kid to be a kid. He already knows how to do that. I’m preparing my kid to be an adult.” I believe so strongly that homeschooling is the best way to do that. Daily life activities are full of opportunities for learning and my children are front and center for all of them. I also love not being tied to a schedule or being forced into doing what someone else thinks is best for my child.

At Savvy Schooling, I’ll be able to combine all my passions into one big endeavor. I hope you enjoy what I share and, most of all, that you’ll find it encouraging and useful.
